What did you wish you knew before going to your university? What made you choose this institution over all others? What are advantages and disadvantages of your institution or campus? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your university.
I chose Laurier because of their amazing co-op program. I also really liked the atmosphere of the campus.
What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.
I cannot recall any mistakes I made. The advantages of my program: After first-year there are numerous interesting psychology courses offered. This helps in deciding what you would like to do in your upper years and future, especially in regards to switching into the different psychology streams offered.
What was your favourite university experience?
I met so many new people in first-year and recognized a lot of the same faces in second-year as your program’s courses get smaller and you get to know those people more.
What was your least favourite university experience?
Course selection is something that takes a lot of planning, time and patience. With COVID-19, course selection has been very hard this year and it caused some stress. Also, exam times can be very difficult and stressful - make sure to stay on top of your work throughout the year so that you are prepared! You got this, good luck!
What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?
The hardest part of my program is the amount of reading in each individual course. Sometimes things overlap and you have to be able to use the relevant information for each course when being tested. Again, staying on top of your work is key!
If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?
PS263. Behavioural Neuroscience. In this course, you explore psychology from a biological perspective. Although I do not have a strong background in biology, I really loved this course as I was able to challenge myself and expand my knowledge!
