Abrar (Year 3)

What did you wish you knew before going to your university? What made you choose this institution over all others? What are advantages and disadvantages of your institution or campus? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your university.

I chose University of Guelph because it was closer to home. This allowed me to save money on transit , residence and food. Some other advantages of this institution include its student support services. For instance, there are a lot of convenient services offered such as tutoring, paper editing and much more. Lastly, the campus is not large, making it easy to navigate and make sure moving class to class is effortless. Overall, if you choose University of Guelph, make sure to take advantage of student services and know that everyone is welcoming.

What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.

Before choosing my program, I wish I had an idea of the pacing of each course in the program. Each class has tight deadlines that may even overlap with each other and isn't as spaced out as it was in highschool.

What was your favourite university experience?

Exploring the campus, joining clubs such as DECA.

What was your least favourite university experience?

Doing online exams.

What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?

The harshest part of my program is the pacing and tight deadlines. Regarding the pacing, it's best that you obviously keep up with the course content. However it's even better that you come to class prepared. This means having down the notes from the chapters before the lecture is presented. For those who do not feel comfortable presenting in groups will be challenged as my program assesses individual and group presentations thoroughly. This will challenge individuals and get them out of their comfort zone if they are not comfortable with presentations.

If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?

Introduction to marketing (Mcs 1000) because it required a lot of teamwork in certain assignments. With this, you make new connections and friendships.
