What did you wish you knew before going to your university? What made you choose this institution over all others? What are advantages and disadvantages of your institution or campus? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your university.

I chose UofT because of its prestige for my program as well as research opportunities. There are a lot of opportunities available to expand your skills. Before coming here, I wish I would've known to plan out my classes so that I have enough time to get from one class to another (it's a big campus so they can be far)

I wish I would've taken more electives that interested me! It was really fun doing the couple that I did but taking more I liked (not necessarily science based as well) would've been nicer.

What was your favourite university experience?

My best experience at university was getting to make friends! I was nervous going in but joining a FLC really helped me feel more welcome as well. I met amazing people from all over the world and got to form some great friendships. It made the whole experience a lot better.

What was your least favourite university experience?

My worst experience was probably taking 9 am and 9pm ending classes :( Since I commute I ended up having to wake up super early and then getting home really late. The break I had in between was nice but I wish I'd planned the timings better.

What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?

The hardest part was probably having a way heavier workload than high school so transitioning to that was difficult. Some steps I took to manage this was scheduling my time better and more specifically as well as procrastinating less (haha hard to do at first). It also helped to write things out when memorizing as it helped me learn better.

If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?

BIO130 - Molecular & Cell Biology — this was my favourite course because the content really interested me which made studying for exams easier as well. It is often painted as being a course with difficult content but if you are able to understand it it's really interesting in my opinion.
