Life Science at University of Toronto (St. George)
Anson (Year 2)

What made you choose this institution over all others? Did the university exceed your expectations?
I had chosen this institution because of its reputation and it’s opportunities that it will be able to provide for me in the future. The university has met my overall expectations so far.
Do you have any lingering thoughts or regrets in your year as a whole (ex; application process, mistakes going into first year). If so, describe them.
One regret I have had through my first year was not being able to get to know my professors better.
Briefly describe the academic rigour of your program (in terms of competitiveness, courses, professors, etc.)
Some specific courses within my program were very difficult and the professors have a lot of expectations for their students, therefore the course grading was strict.
Describe the social life at your campus based on your own experiences (making friends, clubs + extracurriculars, party culture etc.)
It was quite easy to make friends during my first year although not having a lot of high school friends going to the same university. There were also many frat parties around the campus.
What are some of the best and worst parts of your university experience so far?
One of my best experiences was being able to work in a chemistry lab and understanding proper lab techniques and etiquette that could benefit me in the future. One of my worst experiences was having incompetent partners for both labs and assignments.
List three effective study techniques and/or habits:
Having friends who had similar goals to me.
Having a set schedule everyday.
Recording lectures and being able to listen to them again at a later time.
List advice for first-year students:
Don’t be afraid of how difficult something might be.
First year courses are great to test out what you like and don’t like.
