Due to its location in the downtown area, some of the campus facilities can be hard to find. I had my first course in a cinema last term and on the first day I wasn't sure where to go since I didn't expect it to be literally in a theatre room. For some other faculties where I don't usually have classes I'm still depending on the map. Even if you take a campus orientation you'd better seek for a person to take you for a detailed tour. And better keep a campus map in your phone.
What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.
I'd say practicing more of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign will be very useful. Lots of our program's work is based on them. Better get a basic knowledge. But don't worry, school will teach from the very beginning and first year work won't be too hard. Just an early preparation will help.
What was your favourite university experience?
All the tutors and professors I have are very nice. Our program is not a big one so we can be very close.
What was your least favourite university experience?
Nothing too bad I guess. If I had to pick one then probably is that I feel like I always have courses at the two furthest parts of the campus. In winter, it can be very cold to walk outside. But beside that, nothing too bad really.
What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?
The design course GCM130 can be a challenge if you don't have any previous knowledge of Illustrator. First year courses in our program mostly use this. Practice more, seek for help from those who know it well, and you can always watch YouTube tutorials if you want. Try to get familiar with the basics. It will come handy because in class it can be fast paced. Like I said before and early preparation will help.
If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?
GCM120 It's the course that you'll truly be running a printing press. Very interesting and fresh experience.
