What did you wish you knew before going to your university? What made you choose this institution over all others? What are advantages and disadvantages of your institution or campus? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your university.
I ultimately chose to attend Ryerson because of the diversity, programs, and the location. I wanted to explore more of downtown and honestly, I loved the freedom and access to so many things. I can't say much about the campus as I did not live in residence.
What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.
I wish I knew way ahead of time about the abroad program that you can apply for. I really wanted to apply but due to financial issues, I couldn't as I was not prepared.
What was your favourite university experience?
My best experience at Ryerson was my last year. I had gotten used to the school already and made friends and connections. We had a capstone course and it was during this time that I learned the most and really went out of my comfort level. I met an amazing circle of new friends who I still keep in touch with. I am quite a shy person but it was during this year that I connected more with others and really grew as a person.
What was your least favourite university experience?
I wouldn't say I ever had a bad experience here at Ryerson, but the most difficult year for me was first year. It was a huge transition from high school into university and I had to adjust. Despite stressing over the drastic change in environment, I had a lot of fun meeting new people and just having fun as a university student in Downtown Toronto.
What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?
I would say all the courses offered in the program are quite diverse and you would enjoy it if you had a particular interest. Don't be afraid to try learning courses that you aren't familiar with or have no background knowledge in; who knows, you might find your niche.
If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?
My absolute favourite course, each to their own, would have to be my major's capstone course. A capstone course essentially encapsulates everything you learned throughout the years (excluding your liberals) pertaining to your major. In this course, it was difficult but most importantly, it challenged me and made me learn more, experience more, and really challenged me to reach my potential. I would say you would enjoy your capstone courses if you really want to. I personally enjoyed the challenge and going beyond my limits.
