What did you wish you knew before going to your university? What made you choose this institution over all others? What are advantages and disadvantages of your institution or campus? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your university.
I wish I knew more about the social life on campus before going to Laurier because I feel like it is very important to have a social life outside of school so that you can relax and enjoy life outside of academics. I chose Laurier because I have always wanted to live away from home and I was told that they had an amazing business program which peeked my interest when I was searching for a university. I like how my campus isn't very big and everything is very close together but there aren't a lot of things to do on campus except for studying which I find kind of boring.
What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.
I wish that I knew how competitive my program was before applying because it has put a lot of stress on me to be competitive with others. I would make sure to stay on top of all my courses so you don't fall behind. I found that my program offers a lot of opportunities to work with large companies. Finding friends is difficult in this program because everyone is very busy and doesn't really have time to talk to people.
What was your favourite university experience?
The best university experience was Laurier Homecoming because this is the one time where everyone was having fun and socializing. This event has helped me find new friends and meet a lot of different people in different programs at my school. Laurier Homecoming is one of the biggest events in Ontario where students from other schools come visit and participate in the event as well.
What was your least favourite university experience?
My worst university experience is during exam season because exams are worth a lot more in university in terms of your mark, so it was a very stressful. The reason why it's stressful is that we don't know our final mark or if we even passed until the end of the term which can stress a lot of people out.
What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?
The hardest part about my program is time management because there are assignments due back to back for the same course. There are also many presentations that need to be done which adds another component of stress.
If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?
My favourite course has to be Accounting (BU127) because it was my favourite course in high school and most of it was review especially if you have taken accounting in high school.
Additional Comments
Overall Laurier is a school that I learned to enjoy throughout my first year. I am looking forward to meeting more people. If you choose to visit Laurier make sure you try and get a tour of everything you can do there.
