I chose UofT for the research environment here, which was top of the country. You have access and exposure to some of the world's leading research programs and professors. I wish I knew more about the wide range of program selections available here before applying, so that I can formulate a set of courses that are specifically tailored for my education.
What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.
As I am in a PhD program, it is heavily based on the professor you are doing the research with. Different institutes support their research with different amounts of funding, so it is always good to go to a university where there is plenty of support in the form of student scholarships and grants.
What was your favourite university experience?
My best experience is attending academic talks presented by the world's leading scientists from all over the world.
What was your least favourite university experience?
My worst experience is limited interaction with everyone else in the program, as you are focused on your research project daily and do not have a lot of time to socialize.
What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?
Program difficulty comes from the challenging experiments and often failing at obtaining experimental results. You have to learn to be vigilant in your pursuit of your thesis project and never let failures stop your progress.
If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?
My favourite course is tissue engineering, showcasing the advancements made in the field and where we can make more impact in the future.
